The Future of Fernwaters

Fernwaters Public Charter School is about to do something no charter school in Salmon has ever done–house all of its students on property and in facilities owned by the charter school organization. The school has purchased 3 acres of prime city real estate on the bar across from the hockey rink. Award winning Resin Architecture is designing a brick and mortar building that will include classrooms, office space, and an auditorium with a lobby, which will become available for local individuals and groups to use. The project will be funded by a USDA Rural Development Loan.

Donations to this project will go toward completing the vision for a school-owned K-8 charter school campus with a community concert and lecture hall.

Progress Updates

8-30-24, Fernwaters has completed Phase 1 of a two-phase project. We have completed the construction of the K-3 building on the northern end of the 3-acre lot. This project was funded entirely through donations, remaining ESSER funds, and capital reserves. All of the water, sewer, and electrical infrastructure is in place for Phase 2 of the project.

7-9-25 A USDA Rural Development Loan in the amount of $3.5 million was awarded. Fernwaters will construct classrooms, offices, and community performance space, Phase 2, of the Permanent Facility Project.

9-18-25. We have begun the Construction Manager Selection Process.

11-10-25. Construction Solutions Company was selected as the CM/GC on this project. Civil engineering work is in progress.

2-13-26. Contracts have been signed between Fernwaters and Resin Architecture and Fernwaters and Construction Solutions Company. Preliminary civil engineering work is complete, and construction is slated to begin in July.

3-9-26. Architectural drawings are underway. Construction is slated to begin summer 2026.
